Finn“I could very easily fill a novel's worth of praising words for Jan, her Westies, and her puppies... I'll curb myself though...

First and foremost, the most important part of having a Hariwest Westie, is the breeder, and truly wonderful person, that comes with the puppy. Jan has been nothing but an insightful, helpful, friend and expert throughout our Westie 's growth. She's interested and concerned and is always there to help before, during, and after your Westie grows up. I feel so lucky to have been accepted by her, as not only as one of her privileged puppy owners, but also as a friend. She's a gift, and gaining her along with Finn, has enriched my life a hundred-fold.

Now onto the puppy... Finn. Finn is the most amazing dog I've ever had. I grew up with different dogs, mutts and pedigrees alike, and none have been as cheerful, loving, or healthy as Finn. He's a true companion, and you can see immediately where he gets it from when you visit Jan and her four Westies. He's just like his Mum and her friends... sitting on your lap, looking at you with big brown friendly eyes, rolling over for a belly rub... they and Jan clinched it for us... we knew no matter how long we had to wait for a puppy, it was going to be a Hariwest puppy. There's just no comparison. Finn is more my little friend than my little dog... he's full of character, a constant well of amusement, a very loving, very curious, very good boy.

I absolutely treasure my experience with Jan and Finn... I can't even put into words what I have gained through them both.”

“I was looking on the internet for guidance regarding buying a Westie. I came across Jan's site and I asked her for some advice. Her advice was very valuable and we went to see about our new puppy. With the advice Jan gave us I knew what to look out for and we are going to be proud owners of a Westie puppy at the start of March. If I need advice I have asked Jan could I contact her, I am sure she will not mind. By the way we have decided to call our new puppy Sam. All the best for now. New Westie owners, the Cust family.”

The Cust Family - Portadown N Ireland - 3rd February 2009

“It's exactly a year since we lost our beloved westie boy Bono, aged 11 and like many others in this guest book, were devastated and took a long time to come to terms with his passing. After finding the most beautiful westies on the Hariwest website some months later, we knew we couldn't go on much longer without filling the house with a westie once again. We had long thought it would be fun to have double trouble and opt for two westie pups but we weren't sure if we would be brave enough to take the plunge and rise to the challenge after having such a well behaved, grown up westie in Bono. But Jan helped us with that decision and on 3rd April we took home our beloved Amy (Hariwest Hidden Delite) and gorgeous Dylan (Hariwest Hidden Promise) which were two of Jasmine s beautiful litter.

We re now 7 months on and what a total rollercoaster of emotion and experience. Amy and Dylan are the most gorgeous companions anyone could ever have. Having two westies has been a challenge and we have had to turn our lives around to make sure they have had the best possible start in life but this has been totally worth every minute. In the early days our two little angels fought and squabbled more than normal and although we were sure they loved each other really, we were concerned that they were having some serious sibling rivalry which was spoiling their puppyhood. In fact Jan and Dave are testament to this concern with the many phone calls made seeking reassurance that such behaviour, whilst a little unusual, was not signalling a total family feud which couldn't be resolved.

Seven months later, they still skirmish and scuffle but they're the best of friends (as long as Amy can be the boss and Dylan stays in his place!) and they are fantastic. They have totally different personalities Dylan is the most placid, sleepy, loving puppy, you wouldn't know you had him, whilst Amy is a true matriarch with an unbelievable terrier instinct with incredible energy who will chase anything whether it s a leaf or a squirrel, and she s remarkably territorial! What they both have in common though is that they are great company, both share a gentle, loving temperament and both are absolute masters in the art in making you laugh.

We were very fortunate to find Jan and Dave who have been incredibly supportive right from the beginning and throughout our westie journey. we have also taken Amy and Dylan back to Wales to see Jan and Dave for a much needed trim and had a thoroughly enjoyable trip it was great to see Jan and Dave once again and the pups loved meeting Abbie, Saffie and Connie and of-course their mum, Jasmine.

Thanks to Jasmine for giving us two wonderful pups and to Jan and Dave for all their dedication, especially in those early days to ensure they had the best possible start a westie could ever have!”

Chelsea“ Hariwest Sunset - This picture is Chelsea Tilley, Connie's puppy, DOB 18/5/08. She has now discovered that going for a walk is great and she loves it. Pictured here in the Surrey Hills, with a gorgeous late September sunset behind her.

Chelsea is such a loving little hariwest girl and she can't wait to see Mummy Jan again for her 1st proper Hariwest Trim. Our little fluffy bundle has brought fun and laughter back to us again, when we thought we'd never get over losing our Westie, Sophie, earlier this year. However, meeting Jan and Dave and being lucky enough to have one of Connie's litter has brought so much happiness to Ian and I. I must stop gushing!!!!

Looking forward to seeing you next month Jan, Dave and Hariwest aunties/mummy Connie.”

Andrea and Ian - Croydon - 27th September 2008

Duffy“We were delighted to pass the screening process with Jan, resulting in being able to adopt our wonderful Duffy - daughter of beautiful Connie. We have previously been blessed with two Westies - Dino of 18 years and then Pickle of 16 years, whom we lost in September last year. Having no children, they were our “babies”. After ten months in a very quiet household, we felt it was time to have fun and games once again.

On line, we discovered the Hariwest website. We were enthralled to view the loveliest Westies we have ever seen. We approached Jan many months ago, not knowing whether a litter was due, but just wished to register our desire to own a Hariwest puppy. We were eventually invited to meet the Hariwest clan, after which Jan and David were satisfied that we would be loving and responsible parents. They are totally dedicated to the well-being of the Westie girls and the litters they produce. Of paramount importance to them is that the puppies will be loved and cherished by their adoptive parents. When it came to selection, it wasn 't a case of our choosing a puppy from the litter - the puppy chose us, approaching us with great gusto. Just as well, because they were all picture perfect.

Duffy is absolutely stunning, full of character, very affectionate and a real heart breaker; indeed, her kennel name is Hariwest Hartstoppa. She has already won over our family, our friends and the staff of our local veterinary practice who all confirmed that she was the most beautiful Westie puppy.

How ever can we thank Jan for her absolute dedication in bringing along such a perfect Westie to make our lives complete and David for being so supportive in his kind and wise words of encouragement? We send our thanks also to the wonderful Connie for producing such a shining star and look forward to seeing the Hariwest clan again when Duffy returns to be groomed.”

Love from David, Pam and Duffy Tisdale - Kenilworth - 23rd July 2008

“Ian and I are so totally in love with our little Chelsea Tilley (Hariwest Hart o Gold). Following the passing of our 18 year old westie, Sophie, I was lucky enough to find Jan and Dave via Google. God bless Google!

The love, care, friendship and 'westiness' that Jan and Dave have blessed Ian and I with, is beyond measure. We never dreamed we would own a beautiful Hariwest, but Connie and Jan had other ideas. We were invited to visit by Jan, not long after Sophie passed. The Westie girls, Connie, Saffie, Abbie and Jasmine all dived in and cheered us no end. We met Jasmine's litter and left that day so happy. We decided that we didn't want a Westie from anywhere else. We had also met the most special people in Jan and Dave. Their devotion to their Westies and the love and care shown to them and their puppies is without compare.

Ian and I are now proud owners of the most special Westie princess and we are bowled over by her. A westie princess from Connies recent litter. Like Lily and Sid, she is such a good little Westie, so loving, so funny. We are looking forward to taking her back to Wales to visit her mum and aunties and of course, 'Mummy Jan', who will always be Chelsea's Mum too.

Thank you Jan, Dave and of course, Connie.”

All our love. Andrea & Ian - South Croydon - 7th July 2008

“My wife, Adrienne, and I recently lost our gorgeous Westie boy called Hector. The pain was so great that we swore we would never have another Westie again. We thought it would be disloyal to his memory. Then one day we happened upon Jan's site on the Internet and, inevitably, all those magic "Westie" feelings just flooded back. We could not wait any longer - we had to get back to owning a Westie or preferably a couple this time. We contacted Jan, via telephone, and had several lengthy chats about Westies and our feelings. Jan was very supportive and understood fully how we felt and "where we were coming from."

Eventually, we were fortunate enough to be invited to Jan & Dave's house to see her beautiful girls - Abbey, Connie, Jasmine (who was pregnant) & Saphie. They are beautiful and have equally beautiful temperaments. Then we were lucky enough to be offered two of Jasmine's litter when they were born. We went back to see the puppies when they were born and we could not believe how beautiful they ALL were. Then the fateful day came when we picked up our beautiful baby boy and girl - SID & LILY. We drove all the way back to Yorkshire in almost total silence we were so overawed.

We have now had Sid and Lily for almost 2 weeks now and there simply are not enough words in the English Language to describe just how brilliant it has been. They are absolutely brilliant. They are so loving, so intelligent, so placid and such fun. Even now they both have their own separate little characters and traits.

Throughout this time Jan and Dave have both been fantastic. Jan is a fountain of knowledge and is only too happy to share it with you when you ask for help. We have spoken to Jan several times since we have got back to Yorkshire and nothing is too much trouble or effort for her. She has readily given us advice when we have asked for it. Jan and Dave will remain part of our lives forever. We really cannot begin to say thank you for giving us these two little bundles of fluff and fun and we will be eternally grateful.

We have already booked our first "doggie holiday" in the Lake District for later in the year. I would thoroughly recommend Jan for all things Westie - even if you just want a Westie chat. We will certainly keep in touch. Once again Jan a million thanks for Sid and Lily.”

Tom, Adrienne, Sid & Lily - Barnsley, South Yorkshire - 9th April 2008

“Me & my partner Andrea recently met up with Jan, David & the four beautiful westie girls. As luck would have it Jasmin had her litter of puppies who were just adorable. Having recently lost our beloved Sophie to cancer who died at the ripe old age of 18, we have been completely at a loss. But seeing all of these stunning westies with Jan & David blew us away, and what seemed like a couple of hours turned into the whole day. We don't have any children so we just wish to be westie parents again, and have our fingers crossed that we will be parents of a Harriwestie at sometime in the future. Having met the Harriwest clan, we have no interest in sorting out after breeders from else where, and feel as though we will be friends with Jan & David no matter what the future lies ahead. And testiment to Jan & David we will be patient, and hope that maybe, just maybe we will be one of a select few lucky enough to be blessed with a Harriwest.”

Ian Tilley - Croydon - 2nd April 2008

“Your Westies are absolutely gorgeous. I have been looking into them for a quite a while now. If we do consider getting one we only want THE best breeder. Would you be able to send us some information? I have a daughter who is in love with the breed. We have 20 acres of land and is nicely set back in the woods far away from the road. Thank you!”

Kelly - Plattsburgh area N.Y - 29th February 2008

Eric “What can we say about our beautiful boy, Eric? He is the most sweet natured little Westie who loves cuddles, people, cuddles, other dogs, cuddles, children, walks and more cuddles. And this is all thanks to Jan and David.

We had decided to get a sibling for Jack, our seven year old Westie and after many chats on the phone and visits to meet the girls, we were lucky enough to get one of the puppies.

Jan and David put in so much hard work not just with the girls but with all the puppies as well. As new parents we reaped the benefits a thousand-fold, Eric is such a real joy and he has a fabulous temperament. He has been a wonderful addition to our family and we cannot thank Jan enough for allowing us to have one of her precious puppies.

We still keep in touch and Jan has been invaluable with advise when we ve needed it, both before and after Eric s arrival. We even drive the 140 miles round trip to go back to see everyone and for Eric to be groomed by Jan.

Thank you so much Jan and David for your continued support and for our very special boy who's the best little brother to Jack (although he's a bit bouncy at the moment!).”

Amanda & Paul Beasley (and not forgetting Jack) - 5th February 2008

Daisy“We have had dogs all our life, but this is the first time that we have had a Westie. Daisy is by a long way the most sociable, lovable and well-behaved puppy we have ever had. She is an absolute delight and continues to amaze us, daily, with her ability to take things in her stride. She loves everybody and will never make a guard dog. She rarely barks but prefers to lick and make a fuss.. She demolishes her food but doesn't get under your feet when we are having food. She plays with all her toys but is not destructive. She even watches television with us! We are so thankful that we found Jan on the internet, Daisy has filled our house once again.

Thanks to Jan and Dave for all the early training and of course to Abby for such a wonderful puppy.”

Clive and Suzanne - 30th October 2007

“We first came into contact with Jan Lloyd & her husband Dave around November 1995 when Paddy & I made the decision to have 2 Westie puppies. We made detailed enquiries to source a responsible breeder and find out as much as possible about Westies - and indeed puppies as we have never had them before! We were absolutely delighted and impressed with Jan and her caring and responsible approach to breeding Westies. It did not matter to us that she is based in South Wales - ca. 5 hours drive from our home - we were completely sure that we wanted 2 of her puppies.

However, we also had to go through a gentle but thorough "screening" process wth Jan - we had to convince her that we would be loving and responsible dog "parents" before she would even consider us. We took our time getting to know each other - Jan was always available for queries and guidance.

Eventually, on November 10th 2006 we collected our beautiful boys - Finn & Archie, born to Millie on September 8th.

To say our lives have completely changed would be an understatement. We do not have children and therefore we were used to a lifestyle of doing what we wanted and when we wanted. Finn & Archie have brought a delightful "shock" to our lifestyle, it's more structured, we do have to consider them in everything we do - but this is most certainly not a sacrifice, we consider them to be members of our family. They are so adorable, beautiful, playful, naughty, friendly, happy, loving....we could go on and on (in fact we do so often that we are at risk of becoming boring to family and friends).

Jan's principle is to breed for health and temperament - and both Finn & Archie are a testament to this. Their brief time with Jan gave them a good start in excellent socialising skills. There are young children in our extended family and both Finn & Archie are excellent with them and other people. On our daily walks they are always keen to make friends with other dogs and their owners.

Their are an independent and inquisitive breed - they consider themselves to be equal to you - you do have to earn their respect! Patience is needed in training and I would say it is more the dog owners that need the training rather than the dogs! They do need to be able to "express" their happy and feisty spirit - they are exceptionally charismatic dogs. One word of caution - they do like to help you with gardening (they are diggers! - so be warned).

We would not be without them - everyone we know adores Finn & Archie and they love all the attention they get. They sleep a lot, but like children are active at the most inconvenient hours - in our case it is between 18.00 - 21.00; but we are fortunate that we have the space for them to run around and chase each other.

Our relationship with Jan did not end once we collected Finn & Archie - rather it has now developed into more of a friendship than acquaintances. Jan is always on hand for continuous advice and guidance which we very much appreciated as we never had dogs before. We are still in contact and I hope that continues for many years to come.

Thank you Jan!”

“Very happy first birthday to my brothers, Archie, Finn, and my sister little Nell.Yes today it's our very first birthday. Hope you guys are doing o.k. I am very happy in Rhoose. Got my people wrapped around my little paw. They think they are running the show, well I got news for them !!! I still get to go home to Jan and Dave's for a groom and come out looking very smart. Enjoy your day guys, I am off to the beach later, or at least when I can get them out of bed.”

Hamish Mcgilvray - Rhoose, South Wales - 7th September 2007

Hariwest Flash Harry“We are both so pleased we found Jan & Dave since the loss of our previous Westie (Bertie) earlier this year. It was so therapeutic to be able to pay them a visit and to meet all her family of lovely Westies. Jan has become such a friend and an encouragement as we prepared our home to welcome the new arrival.

It has been a long time since we last had a puppy in the house, so we needed a refresher course and Jan provided all the help and advice. Harry has settled in well and is looking forward to his first puppy party run by our local veterinary practice. He is a truly wonderful pup, exhibiting all the traits of a Westie: - lively, alert, inquisitive, and above all, loving and responsive he was made to measure for us, you could say, and he has proved that you are never to old to rear a Westie. Many thanks Jan & Dave we owe you so much.”

Love from Paul and Valerie Vidler & Hariwest Flash Harry

“I used to have a Westie, but he died of old age a few years ago. It is wonderful to be able to look at your gorgeous dogs on the website - it really takes me back. Robbie was almost 13 when he died, and my children grew up with him. He is very much missed, but I have decided not to have another dog. Thank you for setting up your website as Westies are still very dear to my heart, and I love to see other people's dogs. ”

Julie McHugh - Northants - 17th August 2007

“We lost our first darling Westie puppy, Bremner in January 2007 to cancer and I thought I would never feel the same again about having another little boy like him. I saw Jan's website and her beautiful puppies and took a chance to give her a ring. We had a long chat about how much I missed him and Jan said we could come and visit her at anytime. As luck would have it, Amy's puppies were due in the March and we were so lucky to have our little cheeky Charlie boy a few weeks later.

He has turned our lives around and has such a loving nature and such a fun personality. He likes to visit Jan and she loves to know how Charlie is getting on. It is lovely to visit every couple of weeks for Charlie to have his hair cut and for him to see everyone! Jan has such affection for all her pups and they will always be her babies. Thank you Jan for giving us our special little boy xxx ”

J Sanders - Mid Glamorgan - 7th August 2007

Miffy“Exactly one year ago today we travelled to Wales to collect our beautiful Westie puppy 'Miffy' Having scoured every possible website for a superb breeder we struck lucky when we found Jan. We had read from her website the comment - 'she breeds with her heart' and that says it all.

We regard ourselves honoured that Jan agreed to let us bring Miffy into our family where she joined our adorable seven year old Rosie. So caring and careful is Jan in who she chooses to adopt her puppies that we were unsure even as we went out to the car that we would actually be approved to bring Miffy home.

Jan has been a source of knowledge, information, support and friendship throughout this year and we look forward to many more years of association with her and David.

As for Miffy - she is a gentle affectionate dog a wonderful friend to Rosie. She is full of fun, bright, intelligent, happy, friendly and gentle - an apprentice for all household and gardening tasks and a wonderful watch dog.

If you are looking for a dog who is truly one of the family you can't choose better than a Westie and if you are looking for a Westie breeder you won't find better than Jan and David. ”

Pam & Alan Neilson - Solihull West Midlands - 1st July 2007

Hariwest Hi n' dri“To Jan and Dave our best friends. We had Ross (Hariwest Hi n' dri) from you over 16 years ago and we have remained friends all these years.

We now have four westies and it all started because of you. You helped us through thick and thin up all hours of the day and night with the puppies, but it's all been worth it, as money could never buy the pleasure we have with our westies. God bless you both.”

Lyndon & Helen - 29th June 2007

Rigby“We found the Hariwest website in January 2007 and were desperate for a Puppy having been let down elsewhere. We contacted Jan who was great. We went for a chat a few days later and she agreed to let us adopt a pup which she had just been born.

We got Rigby at the end of January and we never knew it was possible to love an animal so much. He has brought us more laughs and pleasure in the last 6 months than we have had for years. He has become great friends with our cat, and really is the star of the Close where we live. He turns more heads then you can imagine!

Thank you Jan, you have become a good friend and we will continue to bring our little boy to you for grooming so you can keep your eye on him!”

Claire & Euros Thomas - Rhoose, South Wales - 22nd June 2007

“We got Esther from you last April and she is absolutely beautiful. Naughty and cheeky but very affectionate. Our 15yr old other westie (Barney) is really smitten and she has given him a new lease of life. All the hard work Jan and David put in has really paid off. Thank you very much.”

Deborah - Newport

“Many thanks to you both for Hamish. He is now ten months old and he is a wonderful friend and companion. He has given us more enjoyment than anything else we can imagine. In fact he has become a little star where ever we take him.

I spoke to you last August, just after losing Toby,my Westie.I said I was not sure if another Westie could take his place. But you said, Hamish would have his own personality and would become a good friend .I still think of Toby, but Hamish has brought life back to the house. He has a superb temprement, loads of character, and cheeky ( in a nice sort of way.)

Hope to see you in the next week or so, for Hamish to have his grooming. He is looking a bit scruffy at the moment having spent a month in the countryside doing what Westies do in fields and hedge rows.

Once again many thanks to you both (and Millie!) for Hamish.”

Yvonne & Chris - Rhoose, South Wales

“When we were looking for a Westie pup we browsed the internet and found Hariwest website. We knew these were the right Westies for us, we found the website very friendly and helpful. Jan it was very reassuring to know that you were there to support and advise us. We wish to thank you very much for Ellie our beautiful pup, she is fabulous and has bought us a lot of happiness. We are looking forward to our next addition, which is soon, a playmate for Ellie. Jan & David you are both very dedicated to your Westie's, resulting in perfect pups, good natured and well socialised, which is very important.

Jan I am so glad our paths have crossed, because not only are you "the best westie breeder", I have found a new friend.”

Gail & Mike Dodd - Chester

“I have known Jan for over 16 years and she is someone who is truly dedicated to the welfare of Westies, and is always available to offer valued advice and support.

Thank you for all the wonderful haircuts and care you gave Quinny for 14 years. He always loved coming to see you and now Maggie May carries on the tradition.

Thank you for all your help and advice when I was choosing Maggie May, and also when you and Dave looked after her when she was 6 months, so that I could go away for my 50th birthday. It made such a difference knowing that she would be so well cared for.

The Westie photos are beautiful. Good luck and success to you both with the web site. You deserve it!”

Lynne - Cardiff

“Thank you for cutting our Toby for all these years, even though you think i have him too short. Seeing your appealing photos of the puppies makes me go all broody. I will not be showing this site to Darryl because you know what he is like for your girls see you at the end of the month.”

Janice, Darryl and Toby - Newbridge

“Jan has supplied me with the two most beautiful and good natured girls anyone could wish for. Two different characters, 'Hidden Trouble' Kyla is so apt, an explorer and escape artist always up to mischief and completely fearless, and sister Bonnie, the quiet soft and gentle lady who likes security and a no risks life!

Not only have I acquired some special Westies but also some special friends in Jan and Dave.”

Mat Town - Ross on Wye

“I bred Polly, I could not have sold her to a better home and future, her Mum was Moy, there will never be a girl like her, Jan is also a one off, breeds with her heart, not her purse, and makes sure her pups have a good start in life, and that they go to good homes. This is a wonderful place to adopt a West Highland White Puppy, look no further.”

Anne Jones

“When you want to know how well something is going - go straight to the top, and that is where I am. Aunty Jan found me a wonderful home when I didnt quite pass muster in the show ring (a cunning ploy on my part I thought). Lots of happy memories later my Mother sadly died and I felt cherished in the fact that Aunty Jan would have found someone as equally caring to look out for me. However, my sister has now become my mother and given me lots of new walks and friends near her home - we really are a team of two. I visit Aunty Jan regularly for my designer haircut and she and my Mum discus my Terrier tendancies - Im not just a chocolate box dog and Im very lucky to have been born into Aunty Jans family. If you are having a picnic Im more than happy to join you - if you live around my way I probably have done so already.”

Jodie - Bryncethin

“It was our lucky day 15 years ago when we contacted Jan and bought two wonderful Westie pups - Tom and Jerry. They have bought many years of joy and happiness to our lives.

Jan has always been at the end of a phone with valued advice, nothing was too much trouble, a good friend. Her puppies have a great start to their lives with such a caring breeder. Thank you Jan.”

Lucy and Phil - Gairloch, North West Highlands

“We really like the pictures you have chosen on your website.”

Lorna & John Weldrake & Annie - Yate, Near Bristol

“We have known Jan for almost 16 years and would recommend her as a caring breeder and great friend in good times and bad. She has always had the welfare of her westies as her main priority.

The website is great with wonderful pictures. The westies certainly know how to pose.”

Steve & Marie - Cwmbran

“We are the proud owners of Harlequin JAC (see Puppies) who is now over 14years of age. We were very fortunate to have met Jan as a result of our purchase and have benefitted from Jans knowledge and friendship over that time.

We appreciate the high standards that she sets herself and her continued concern regarding the welfare of her Hariwest offsprings continually from birth to old age. We wish her continued success and happiness in the future.”

Julie and John - Langstone, Newport

“Great to see website and to see some familiar faces from our boys' litter. Jan has always been a wonderfully caring westie breeder and certainly grilled us before allowing us to adopt our two boys, Ben and Toby. Whenever we were concerned we knew she was only a phone call away and would sort out the problem for us. Sadly we lost Ben earlier this year but again she was a tower of strength.

Toby is still going strong at 16.5yrs although with a few problems. Will certainly be visiting site frequently just to look at puppy pictures!”

Sheila - Paignton

“No one could adopt better pups than from Hariwest. Jan is a tower of strength regarding knowledge and back up for those important early days, or in fact for the entire life span of your Westie.

We look forward to the New Year!”

KAY and JIM BENNNG - Griffithstown, South Wales

“Glad to see the webpage for the first time very well and attractively produced. Glad and sad to see Emma - who was a joy to us for sixteen years. We await news of puppies with interest! We'll keep in touch.”
